Nicholson's award-winning play relates the story of shy Oxford don and
Chronicles of Narnia author C.S. Lewis and the American poet Joy Davidman.
Their relationship starts as an exchange of literary correspondence.
When Joy arrives in Oxford with her young son in tow, her intellectual
assertiveness delights Lewis but appals his condescending fellow acadamics.
They are further shocked when Lewis goes through what he supposes is a
marriage of convenience with her for immigration purposes. But as their
friendship deepens, the relationship between Joy and Lewis becomes a genuine
romance, and their marriage turns into a real commitment.
